Research staff of the Branch premise theoretically on integrative approach in Cultural Research. From this approach Cultural Research is seen as an interdisciplinary field of knowledge, having been developed within several disciplines, mainly philosophy and history of culture, psychology and sociology of culture, anthropology and athnology. Although, Cultural Research can not be fully reduced to them. It has its own object, which can be roughly defined as an integral totality of knowledge and skills, customs, practices and other forms of acquired behaviour, as well as the domain of artifacts reflected in the human consciousness the totality that regulates, shapes and provides matter to activities of man at every stage of the society development.
The research is based on the principle of trans-disciplinarity. In its turn, following the principle supposes that several minor principles are also followed. They are:
  • tolerance, as a basis of dialogical reorganization of the contemporary multicultural world;
  • openness, as a denial of the deliberate narrowing of research procedures and strategies by the horizons of the exsisting worldview of a researcher;
  • austerity, as a use of clearly appointed procedures of description and techniques of their transfer to the social, psychological, creative practice at each stage of analysis/synthesis.
The staff of the Branch suppose that there is a need to develop brand new forms of research practices that are based on results of correct conducting of interdisciplinary research, the forms which would foster the principle of complex, versatile approach to actual issues of culture, language, art, politics, society.
Very important is the possibility to use forms of the discourse, from communication of representatives of various disciplines to working out proper meta-language of research.
